The Papers include manuscripts, notes, correspondence and memoranda, journals, household surveys, publications and "gray" literature, audio tapes, photographs, and other documentation created or used by her. The Papers document her entire career since 1952, beginning with her position as head of the CARE office for Mexico, her doctoral research on the lives of Mayan women and other research on the role of women, her long career as a consulting anthropologist to the World Bank and other organizations, and some aspects of her personal life. The Papers include correspondence files, manuscripts of nearly, if not all of Dr. Elmendorf's publications and presentations, extensive documentation of conference participation, and copies of the research of many of her colleagues in the fields in which she was most interested.
